A YOUNG GIRL CLIMBED A TREE A PRINCESS AND CLIMBED DOWN A QUEEN
Queen Elizabeth II of England visited Kenya in 1952 as a happily married Princess to Prince Philip of Edinburg which led to their visit to the Treetops hotel in Nyeri inside the Abardares National Park. This hotel was build on top of a tree in 1932 by a military officer Eric Sherbrooke Walker for his wife Lady Bettie.
After building the Tree House for His wife the idea overgrow and this led to a construction of two- roomed tree house before the Visit of Queen Elizabeth then a princess in 1952.
The Treetop come to fame after Queen Elizabeth was crowned after the death of his Father George VI who had died in his sleep. The News reached Kenya while the young Princess was still staying at the treetop.
Queen Elizabeth described her stay at the treetop as her most thrilling experience. She also had Lunch at the Maguru Falls now know as the Queens Caves.
The visit of Princess Elizabeth cemented the fame of The Treetops. The Treetops has attracted a large number of rich and famous people every year, Some famous personalities who have visited visited the Treetops before or after the accession of Elizabeth II are Charles Chaplin, , Joan Crawford and Lord Mountbatten Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts movement, Jim Corbett, hunter, conservationist and author and a much-publicized return visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1983.
The modern treetop hotel is a well furnished and Wildlife attractions where there come to drink water at the bore hole near the hotel. It’s easy to see all wildlife from the hotel room and balcony drinking water and licking salt.
Animal founds here includes the buffalos, elephants, hyenas, wildebeests, cheeters among others.
